Thank you for taking the time to check out my blog. I’m Rene, a thirty-something-year-old wife to Dakota and mom to our 6 year old chocolate lab, Keela. Welcome to my little corner of the internet. A place I started in November 2013. I only recently realized my love for cooking and baking (especially) in the last few years. I grew up eating amazing meals my mom cooked. She was always trying new recipes and spent a lot of time recipe planning. For some reason, recipe planning is difficult for me which means I end up standing in front of my pantry and fridge trying to come up with dinner ideas after work. This is how many of my recipes have come about and a big part of the reason I started My Simple Kitchen. Not to pat myself on the back, but a lot of these “thrown together” meals turned out really good and I wanted to share them with EVERYONE which before this blog was just my family.
It took me a long time to take the jump and start my blog. It was something completely out of my comfort zone and something I had no experience with. I’m not a professional cook, not a photographer or writer. My girlfriend, Samantha, started her blog, Playdates and Pearls a few months before and really encouraged me to get started. I really couldn’t have done it without her.
Once I finally made the decision to start, I was stuck. I needed a name! For about a month I was writing down name ideas, sharing with friends and family, trying to come up that “perfect” name. I wanted it to be creative and catchy. One of the first names I came up with was My Simple Kitchen. I scratched it off my list because I didn’t think it was cute enough. After a month, I came back to the ones I said no to. It was perfect. It fits me and fits what my blog is all about – making recipes that don’t require a long ingredient list or a bagillion steps. Every once in a while I’ll get a little crazy and do something different but for the most part, I’m cooking and baking with ingredients I have on hand.
I really hope you enjoy these recipes and get some inspiration for your own! Take a look around and feel free to ask any questions. I welcome comments and suggestions 🙂
