I started My Simple Kitchen almost 7 months ago and can’t believe how fast time has gone. I had no idea how much I would fall in love with the whole process. Coming up with new recipes, photographing my concoctions, and writing! I learn something new everyday and love striving to be better at all aspects of this thing called blogging. One of my favorite parts of this journey is meeting new people. When I first started, I had no idea how much of a community the blogging world is. I have met some awesome people along the way that have helped and supported me! One of those awesome people is Janelle, from Bakesinslippers. I was so excited when she asked me to be apart of the blog tour. I met Janelle after joining the Facebook group, Spoonful of Foodies. (If you haven’t checked it out, go now!) She is so great. She is hilarious and her recipes are drool worthy. One of my favorites would have to be her cappuccino cake with white chocolate frosting she recently posted. Seriously, delicious!! I love the idea of this blog tour. I write a post answering 4 questions, then feature 3 bloggers to do the same. So here are the questions:
1. What am I working on? Well, besides working on remodeling our kitchen, I’m working on making all the recipes I have scribbled down in my journal. I have so many great ideas and can’t wait to share them! Also, Spoonful of Foodies is putting out a fall themed e-book later this summer so I am thinking of some great recipes to add to it. (Any suggestions? Send them my way!)
2. How does my work differ from others in its genre? I love following fancy food blogs and always drool over their recipes. But in reality, my life just too busy to spend a lot of time making dinner. I really focus on meals that do not have a long ingredient list or a lot of steps. The best feedback I’ve had was “It was so great, I had all the ingredients on hand for the recipe”. That my friends, is the whole purpose of My Simple Kitchen.
3. Why do I write what I do? I started blogging because I really wanted to share the recipes I was putting together. I know there are a lot of people and families out there like mine that have busy schedules and do not have a lot of time for dinner. I want to create recipes that are simple and quick but do not sacrifice in taste.
4. How does your writing process work? I actually do not have a so-called process. I prefer to write in the mornings and have been trying hard to make that happen. But a lot of the time I write at night when I have more time. I usually write one post at a time and try to write it up right after I’m done cooking or baking.
Now to introduce you to 3 wonderful bloggers:
Samantha, writer at Playdates and Pearls is first up! I met Samantha about 6 years ago when my husband and I moved to Austin for work. I had the pleasure of working with her for about 6 months. Our friendship was instant and am so happy she is still in my life so many years and miles later. She gave me major motivation and encouragement when I wanted to start a food blog. I can’t wait for you all to head over and follow her. I find myself laughing out loud reading her posts. She has an eye for fashion and home decor, is an awesome DIY’er and has great tips and ideas for mommies! Check out her DIY lemonade stand which I need to do with my nieces this summer.
Next up is Katie, from Pearls + Girls. I met Katie through Facebook shortly after I started My Simple Kitchen. She is an absolute sweetheart and a crazy good baker. Her recipes are delicious! Trust me, I’ve made a few. One that I am dying to try is her coconut apricot cake. I love following her blog because she is always coming up with new ideas and themes. Her current series that just started is “Savory Sundays”. I can’t wait to see what she’ll be making! Katie is so creative and if you’re not currently following her, you should! Also, make sure to check out her Etsy shop, PPG Bakery.
Nicole, over at PicNic is another MUST follow blog. I met Nicole through Facebook also. We started our blogs about the same and I think it’s so fun to watch someone grow. She is such a delight and is very active in the blogging community. I would love to be her neighbor and spend afternoons baking with her! Nicole is from New Zealand and I love her “New Zealand recipes” like this bacon and egg pie. I want to make it for breakfast tomorrow! You should definitely follow her posts so you don’t ever miss a recipe!
Be sure to check out all these gals and their awesome food! Thanks again to Janelle for inviting me to be apart of this blog tour. Hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did!
